There are more and more sophisticated scams happening these days which will only increase as the economy tips into recession. It’s no longer just fake IRS phone calls or the foreign prince that needs you to wire $10,000 to get out of captivity in return for $1,000,000Here are a few quick tips but please click the link to read the FBI guide to protect yourself from scams. It’s time very well spent!Tip 1: Never trust someone with an investment that you only know from the internet. People, especially younger people, have more friends they met through online social platforms whom they never met in person. Even if you’ve known someone for a while, they could be playing a long-game scam on you, so be wary.Tip 2: Madoff Effect: if it’s too good to be true, it likely is.Bernie Madoff infamously scammed billions of dollars by producing legitimate-looking statements showing consistent returns in the 20%+. It is extremely unlikely to produce consistent returned like this across a broad portfolio so don’t fall for itTIP 3: Cross reference everything you learn on the internet with 2-3 independent, reliable resources. This does NOT include chat boards on legit websites, as that content is user driven. This is really a tip for researching anything on the internet, a product you want to purchase, a piece of “news” you want to validate, or a potential investment you want to makeDon’t be lured by the false dreams sold on the internet and elsewhere. Be diligent and protect your hard earned money and time#protectyourfamily #investment #money #cryptoscams #scamawareness

I’m still reflecting on World Mental Health day, and there were several people who helped support me in my recovery from my 2021 episode. I’m posting this not only to thank them publicly, but very importantly, to help teach HOW to give someone support that deals with depression.Erin Buchanan and I crossed paths at work a few years ago. I was starting to be more open about my illness and at one point I opened up to Erin. When I dipped into my 4th episode, Erin messaged me every 2-3 weeks or so, telling me she understands how hard of a battle it is, telling me I’m strong, telling me things like “you’ve got this”. My sister Dawn Greto Briggs acted very similarly, messaging me regularly saying she loved me and was always there for me and offered many times to drop everything to physically be with me. I mostly responded to both of them with “no I don’t have this” or “I’m never getting out of this”, which is really the depression talking, not me.This didn’t faze either of them and they both continued to message me over a 6+ month period. I have saved every message and read them again from time to time. The lesson here is this: DON’T say “I’m sorry you are dealing with this, reach out if you need anything” because depressed people NEVER will. DO proactively send messages of love, support, and encouragement. Don’t get discouraged if the person sends negative messages back, doesn’t respond, or doesn’t seem to be accepting your support because they MOST definitely ARE. There are so many others that supported me, and you know who you are, but this unwavering, consistent messaging over a long period of time made a massive difference!#worldmentalhealthday

Warning: Long post but please take the 2-3 minutes to read and please share with anyone it could help 😃Today is World Mental Health Day. If you or someone you know are dealing with mental health issues now, KNOW that you can get through it. It sucks when you are in it, there’s no way around that, but you can and when you do, tell yourself how strong you are to fight that fight.I want to thank all of you who have supported me over the last 20 years dealing with Episodic Depression. You know who you are and I love you from the bottom of my heart. For those that don’t know, I’ve had 4 major bouts of clinical depression, lasting 9-12 months each, in 2001, 2007, 2018, and 2021. I’m very happy to report that my depression is 100% in remission since March. So why am I putting something so personal and serious on Linked In?The reason is, although things are getting better, there’s still heavy stigma around mental illness and a lack of understanding from most on how to support someone dealing with it. Supporters usually have what I call the funeral effect: they don’t want to say the wrong thing to the person dealing with the illness, so they typically don’t say much, which is not the best way to provide support. My hope is that mental illness becomes on par with cancer in terms of support because the two illnesses have so much in common. Like mental illness, cancer can come on without warning, can be moderate to severe in its impacts, can have very bad side effects to its medical treatment, and can be put in remission but with an ongoing possibility of returning.Where they differ, but desperately need to be the same, is people tend to move toward a cancer patient to provide support vs support “at-a-distance” with mental health. There are thousands of 5K races to raise money for a cure for cancer but very few for MentalIllness cure research. Finally, there is a bell ringing ceremony when someone finishes chemotherapy and typically an informal celebration when cancer is declared in remission. Whereas a mental health sufferer is just quietly re-entered back into normal society without any recognition of the brutal battle it took to get there. Again, this is likely due to the funeral effect, not a lack of caring.Remember to secure your oxygen mask before you you help others secure theirs. Self-love and self-care are actually selfless acts because they put you at your best to be available to serve others. You’ve got this!! 💪🏻😎👍🏻☀️

I took a hiatus from Linked In due to some health issues in 2021. I’m very happy to report that I’m back to 100% health and back re-engaging with Linked In.I wanted to share how proud I was to earn the inaugural 2020 Valiant Award for my special assignment work on the Paycheck Protection Program for Bank of America.I’m not just very proud of this accomplishment but I’m very proud to work for a company that does so much for its employees, clients, and communities. Bank of America fully supported me during my health challenges in 2021. Very lucky to work for a company that both recognizes performance and provides unwavering support during personal challenges! #grateful #bankofamerica #valiantaward

Thank you to all our heroes who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces. There is no greater sacrifice than choosing to put your life on the line to protect others. And thank you to their spouses and families who also make a great sacrifice that often is under appreciated. #thankaveteran #thankfamiliesofveterans
